Oreo is a sweet little 17 year old Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu mix who came to us after being found abandoned in rural Aurora. Luckily, a kind dog-lover took him in right before the cold-snap, as he would not have survived much longer. He was just skin, bones, matted fur, and neglect-related health issues.
Now, Oreo is living the good life with Buddy, another sanctuary dog, and Polar, a CKSDR alumni, in one of our wonderful sanctuary homes. He loves sleeping on soft beds, exploring the grassy backyard, eating homemade meals of eggs, turkey, and other good things, and following his sanctuary mom around the house.
Health-wise, he has made huge improvement, but still has a ways to go. His teeth are horribly infected, and easily the worst we have ever seen. His ears are completely plugged up with ear wax, and he is deaf and blind. He also has a chronic cough that could be anything from a chronic illness (such as laryngitis) to a throat tumor. However, thanks to our wonderful vet at Animal Health Care Specialists, he will soon be undergoing a dental, during which his ears will be cleaned out and he will be checked for any throat tumors. We hope that after the procedure, he will be able to live a pain-free life for many, many more years.
We're not sure how anyone could have given up this darling gentleman, but we are glad he's with us now.
