Our sweet Buddy celebrated his 16th birthday with us on December 16th! Buddy is a darling boy who loves giving rides to his kitten friends (picture below), sleeping, and being happy. Even at the vet's, his tail never stops wagging!
Unfortunately, Buddy was neglected in his previous home. This resulted in deep, infected open elbow injuries, a severe ear infection (which, at one point, closed more than 75% of his ear canal), and dental disease, all of which had been known issues for several years, but were never treated. His elbows required surgery to repair, and even now they have to have daily maintenance to keep clean, and he has to wear elbow pads to prevent the fragile skin from opening again. His ear has opened 60%, but is permanently damaged. His ear flap is dramatically closer to his head than the other, and he will never regain full hearing. His teeth are all better though, thanks to a full dental with many extractions. In addition, he had a thyroid issue, which is now being properly controlled by medication. As a result, his fur has become much softer (though he still sheds like crazy!).
In his new (and forever) sanctuary home, with one of our absolute favorite sanctuary moms, Tricia, Buddy is being made homemade meals, and has finally gained weight (he went from 57 lbs to 72.6 lbs in about two weeks)! He is also enjoying the freedom a dog door provides, and spends most of his time laying outside in the cool grass, getting up only to move to a cooler spot of grass, or to eat.
Please consider donating to his surgery ($500.00) and his continued care which includes monthly medications, and vet appointments.
Checks (preferred) or other presents (anything on Buddy's wishlist, which can be seen below, or our general wishlist) can be sent to 3800 Buchtel Blvd #102541 Denver, CO 80250. You can also donate online via the yellow paypal button below.
Big shout out to Canine Angels Inc. who donated protective elbow pads, to prevent Buddy's sores from reopening! We recommend them for anyone who has a dog with elbow sores, they are well made, machine washable, and effective! Also, big thank you to Animal Health Care Specialists, our awesome, dedicated, senior-dog-loving vet.
