Become a Sanctuary Home

Sanctuary homes are imperative to our sanctuary program. These are people who open their homes to terminally ill or otherwise un-adoptable senior dogs, giving them a place to live out however long they have left, and pass away peacefully in a home rather than in a shelter. While this is the hardest part of senior dog rescue, it is, without a doubt, the most rewarding.

About Being a Sanctuary Home:
  • All medical expenses are covered by the rescue.
  • Vet visits are arranged by us in accordance to your schedule, and we will either meet you at the vet or take the dog ourselves.
  • Basic supplies, if needed, are provided by us ( i.e. leash, collar, ID tag, blankets, crate, etc). Food is not always available, as it is received purely on a donation basis.
  • Behavioral training is provided free of charge.
  • You must be willing to have the dog for the long-term (i.e. for the entire length of the dog's life). Even though many of our terminal dogs are expected to live for only a few weeks, many "bounce back" in a loving home environment, and often exceed all expectations.
  • When it is time to let your sanctuary dog pass peacefully over the rainbow bridge, we will be there to help you through the process, and provide support for both you and your dog.
Like what you hear? Please fill out our foster application, and indicate that you would like to provide a hospice home for terminally ill senior dogs. You can also email us with any questions you have about what being a sanctuary home entails.
